Bakkie Wraps

Colour change and branding wraps for single and extended cab bakkies, planned around the load bin, canopy and rough use.

A bakkie does a different job from a car. It carries tools and loads, may wear a canopy or tonneau cover, and often travels on gravel or farm roads. A wrap has to be planned around how the bakkie is actually used, not just how it looks.

This page covers single cab and extended cab bakkies used for work, leisure or both. If you drive a double cab, see our double cab bakkie page. All bakkie wraps are installed at our Rivonia workshop in Sandton.

About this service

A bakkie wrap applies vinyl over the painted cab, doors, bonnet and outer load bin sides to change the colour, add a finish or carry business branding. The load bin is where most planning goes. The inside of the bin, the bin floor and the top rails take heavy wear from loading and are not usually suitable for vinyl. Tailgates can be wrapped on the outside, working around handles, badges and the number plate.

If you have a canopy, it can often be wrapped along with the bakkie if it is smooth and painted, but fibreglass canopies with textured or poorly finished surfaces may not hold film well. Tonneau covers made of vinyl or fabric are not wrapped; hard painted tonneau covers may be. We look at each accessory before quoting.

Bakkies that go off road pick up bush scratches, stone strikes and dust. Vinyl gives some light protection against minor abrasion, but branches and gravel can still scratch or tear the film, and damaged panels may need rewrapping. Paint protection film is a separate, thicker product designed for impact areas. Results depend on paint condition, material, installation and care.

Suitable vehicles and common uses

  • Single cab work bakkies
  • Extended or club cab bakkies
  • Bakkies with smooth, painted canopies
  • Trade and contractor bakkies carrying business branding
  • Leisure bakkies used for weekends and outdoor trips
  • Bakkies with hard, painted tonneau covers

Available options

  • Full colour change on cab and outer bin sides, subject to material availability
  • Business logos, lettering and contact details
  • Canopy wrapped to match or contrast
  • Bonnet, roof or tailgate accents
  • Chrome delete on grilles, handles and mirrors
  • Side stripes or decals along the load bin
  • Front-end paint protection film combined with a vinyl wrap

Options depend on the material available at the time of your project and on your vehicle. We confirm exactly what is possible in your quotation.

Why choose it

  • Turns a work bakkie into a branded vehicle without repainting
  • Damaged panels can be rewrapped individually after rough use
  • Matching a canopy and bakkie gives a uniform look
  • Branding can be changed or removed when the bakkie is sold
  • Original paint stays underneath

Things to consider

  • The inside of the load bin and bin floor are not suitable for vinyl
  • Bush scratches and stone strikes can still mark or tear the film
  • Textured or poorly finished canopies may not hold film well
  • Fabric and vinyl tonneau covers are not wrapped
  • Bakkies with resprayed or damaged panels may not bond or remove predictably

Preparation and installation process

  1. Use and accessory review. We ask how you use the bakkie and inspect the paint, canopy, tonneau cover and any accessories such as nudge bars or roll bars.
  2. Thorough clean. Bakkies often carry dust and mud in gaps, so we clean seams, wheel arches and the bin edges before any film goes on.
  3. Removal of fittings. Where practical, badges, handles, lights and accessory mounts are removed or loosened.
  4. Cab, bin sides and tailgate. Film is applied to the cab and outer bin panels, with edges finished cleanly along the bin rails and tailgate.
  5. Canopy and final checks. Any agreed canopy wrap is completed, fittings refitted, and edges checked before handover.

What affects the price

  • Single or extended cab and overall size
  • Whether a canopy or hard tonneau cover is included
  • Colour change, branding or a combination
  • Accessories that need removing or working around
  • Design and printing for branded wraps
  • Paint condition and preparation required

Every vehicle is different, so we quote each job individually. Your final quotation depends on the vehicle, the material, how much of the vehicle is covered, any artwork, and the condition of the paint once we have assessed it.

Turnaround

Timing depends on the bakkie’s size, whether a canopy or tonneau cover is included, how many accessories need removing, any design work for branding and the condition of the paint. We confirm timing with your quote after the bakkie is assessed.

Care and maintenance

  • Rinse off mud and red dust soon after off-road trips
  • Avoid scraping loads over the bin rails and wrapped edges
  • Hand wash rather than using automatic brush washes
  • Keep pressure washer jets away from edges around the bin and tailgate
  • Check for lifted edges or tears after bush driving and have them repaired early
  • Park under cover where possible to limit sun exposure

Frequently asked questions

Can you wrap the inside of my load bin?

We do not recommend vinyl inside the load bin or on the floor. Those areas take heavy wear from loads and tools, and film would quickly scratch or lift.

Will bush scratches damage the wrap?

They can. Vinyl offers some light protection, but branches and stones can mark or tear it. A damaged panel can usually be rewrapped on its own.

Can my canopy be wrapped to match?

Often, yes, if the canopy is smooth and painted. We inspect it first, because textured or rough fibreglass may not hold film reliably.

Can you put my business details on the bakkie?

Yes. Logos, lettering and contact details can be added as cut vinyl or a printed wrap, either with a colour change or on the original paint.
