Wraps and PPF can be damaged by scrapes, kerb strikes, minor accidents, pressure washing or simple wear at edges. Wrap repairs and panel replacement address that damage locally, by re-securing lifted edges, patching small areas, or removing and re-wrapping a single panel.
It suits owners of wrapped vehicles that have picked up a scrape, fleets with branded vehicles damaged in day-to-day use, and vehicles returning from panel beating where one panel has been repaired and resprayed.
About this service
Small edge lifting can sometimes be cleaned and re-secured if the film is still in good condition and has not collected dirt underneath. Once dirt has got under the edge or the film has shrunk back, re-securing usually will not hold, and replacing that section or panel is the more reliable fix. Tears and scrapes generally need the damaged panel re-wrapped.
Colour matching is the honest limitation. Film on a vehicle has been exposed to sun and weather, so it may have faded or shifted slightly in tone and sheen. New film from the same product line will be fresh, and the match to an aged wrap may not be perfect, particularly on bold colours, metallics and printed graphics. For printed branding, we can reprint the panel from the artwork, but print and film ageing differences can still show.
For PPF, damaged film on a panel is normally removed and replaced, as clear film cannot be patched invisibly. After panel beating, new paint must be fully cured before film goes back on; the panel beater can advise on their paint’s curing period.
Suitable vehicles and common uses
- Wrapped vehicles with scraped or torn panels
- Edges lifting on bumpers, mirrors or door shuts
- Panels resprayed after an accident that need re-wrapping
- Fleet vans and bakkies with damaged branding panels
- PPF panels cut or marked by a heavy stone strike
- Wraps damaged by a pressure washer held too close
Available options
- Re-securing a lifted edge where the film is still suitable
- Single panel re-wrap in the closest available film (subject to material availability)
- Reprinting and replacing a printed branding panel
- PPF panel replacement
- Re-wrapping after panel beating and respray
- Advice on whether a larger section should be redone for a better match
Options depend on the material available at the time of your project and on your vehicle. We confirm exactly what is possible in your quotation.
Why choose it
- Avoids redoing the full wrap for localised damage
- Helps prevent a small lift turning into a larger peel
- Keeps branded vehicles presentable on the road
- Honest advice on when repair is enough and when a larger section is better
- Can be coordinated with panel beating repairs
Things to consider
- New film may not perfectly match an aged wrap that has weathered
- Lifted edges with dirt underneath often cannot be re-secured reliably
- Discontinued colours or films may not be available
- PPF cannot be patched invisibly; the panel’s film is replaced
- Freshly resprayed panels must cure before film is reapplied
Preparation and installation process
- Damage assessment. We inspect the damage, check surrounding film condition and identify the original film if possible.
- Repair options. We explain whether a re-secure, panel replacement or larger section is the sensible fix, including what the colour match is likely to look like.
- Remove damaged film. The damaged film is removed from the panel with controlled heat and adhesive is cleaned off.
- Apply new film. The panel is prepared and new film is applied, with seams and edges aligned to neighbouring panels.
- Match check. We review the repaired panel against the rest of the vehicle in daylight and talk you through the result.
What affects the price
- Size and number of panels affected
- Film type, colour and availability
- Printed branding that needs to be reprinted
- Condition of the surrounding film
- Paint repair or curing needed underneath
- Complexity of the panel, such as bumpers and mirrors
Every vehicle is different, so we quote each job individually. Your final quotation depends on the vehicle, the material, how much of the vehicle is covered, any artwork, and the condition of the paint once we have assessed it.
Turnaround
Timing depends on whether matching film is in stock, whether branding needs reprinting, how many panels are affected, and whether paint repairs must cure first. A lifted edge is very different from a re-wrapped bumper. We confirm timing with the quote after seeing the damage.
Care and maintenance
- Book repairs early; small lifts grow when dirt and water get under the edge
- Do not try to stick lifted film down with household glue or tape
- Keep pressure washer jets away from repaired edges
- Tell your panel beater the vehicle is wrapped before repair work starts
- Keep a note of your film colour or artwork file for future repairs
Frequently asked questions
Will the repaired panel match the rest of the wrap?
We use the closest available film, but the existing wrap has weathered and new film is fresh, so the match may not be perfect. The difference is often more visible on bold colours, metallics and printed graphics.
Can you repair a wrap installed by someone else?
Yes, if we can source a suitable film. Unknown film types make matching harder, so we assess first and explain what is realistic.
My wrap edge is lifting. Can it just be stuck down?
If the edge is clean and the film is healthy, it can sometimes be re-secured. If dirt is underneath or the film has shrunk back, replacing that section is the more reliable fix.
The panel was repaired at a panel beater. When can it be wrapped?
New paint needs to cure fully first. Your panel beater can tell you how long their paint system needs, and we can plan the re-wrap accordingly.
