Sedan Wraps

Wraps for sedans with long, flat doors and bonnets, where clean lines and a well-wrapped boot lid make the finish.

Sedans have long doors, broad bonnets and a separate boot lid, which makes them a good canvas for a colour change. Those same flat panels are also where any flaw in the film or the paint underneath is easiest to see.

This page is for owners of everyday, executive and sports sedans who want a new colour, a different finish or accent details. Sedans are wrapped at our Rivonia workshop in Sandton.

About this service

A sedan wrap applies vinyl film over the existing paint to change colour or finish. Long, flat panels such as doors, the bonnet and the roof show reflections clearly, so the film has to be laid evenly with minimal stretching and no trapped air. Any dents, chips or uneven paint underneath will also show, particularly in gloss and chrome finishes.

The boot lid is a detail that sets a good sedan wrap apart. It typically has a number plate recess, badges, a lip spoiler or integrated lip, a boot release and sometimes a camera. The gaps between the boot lid and the rear wings, and between the C-pillars and the rear window, need clean edges because they are seen every time you walk to the back of the car.

Vinyl offers some light protection from minor abrasion and UV, but it is not designed to absorb stone chips the way paint protection film is. Results depend on your paint condition, the film chosen, installation and care.

Suitable vehicles and common uses

  • Compact and mid-size sedans
  • Executive sedans used for business travel
  • Performance sedans with lip spoilers and diffusers
  • Company cars needing a uniform colour or subtle branding
  • Owners wanting a matte or satin finish on long body lines
  • Sedans with tired but sound factory paint

Available options

  • Full colour change in gloss, matte, satin, metallic or chrome, subject to material availability
  • Boot lid, roof or bonnet in a contrast finish
  • Chrome delete on window surrounds and grille
  • Boot lip spoiler and mirror accents in carbon fibre look
  • Racing stripes running over the bonnet, roof and boot
  • Door shuts wrapped by arrangement

Options depend on the material available at the time of your project and on your vehicle. We confirm exactly what is possible in your quotation.

Why choose it

  • Long panels show off satin and matte finishes well
  • A new colour or finish without a respray
  • Contrast details can be added or removed later without touching the paint
  • Damaged sections can be replaced panel by panel
  • Paint underneath remains in place if the wrap is later removed

Things to consider

  • Dents and paint flaws are more visible on long, flat panels, especially under gloss film
  • Very long panels may be close to the width of a film roll, which can affect seam placement
  • Door shuts and inner boot edges are not included unless agreed, so the original colour may show when opened
  • Resprayed or damaged paint can affect adhesion and later removal

Preparation and installation process

  1. Assessment. We check the paint on each long panel and the boot lid and discuss finish, coverage and door shut options.
  2. Preparation. The car is washed, decontaminated and panel surfaces are cleaned so the film bonds evenly across large areas.
  3. Trim and boot hardware off. Where practical we remove badges, handles, lights and boot lid fittings so film edges can be wrapped behind them.
  4. Large panel application. Doors, bonnet and roof are laid with controlled tension to avoid distortion, then edges are post-heated.
  5. Boot lid and finishing. The boot lid and its recesses are wrapped, fittings refitted and all gaps and edges checked before handover.

What affects the price

  • The size of the sedan and number of panels
  • Choice of finish, with chrome and specialist films costing more
  • Boot lid complexity and number of recesses
  • Whether door shuts are included
  • Paint preparation required
  • Full wrap versus contrast panels or accents

Every vehicle is different, so we quote each job individually. Your final quotation depends on the vehicle, the material, how much of the vehicle is covered, any artwork, and the condition of the paint once we have assessed it.

Turnaround

Timing depends on the size of the sedan, the finish, whether door shuts are included and how much trim needs to come off. Paint condition found on inspection can also add preparation time. We confirm timing with your quote after assessing the car.

Care and maintenance

  • Wash with a soft mitt and pH-neutral shampoo using straight strokes along the long panels
  • Dry with a clean microfibre towel to avoid water spots on dark gloss films
  • Avoid automatic brush washes
  • Keep a pressure washer away from boot lid edges and door gaps
  • Use only products suitable for the finish you chose, particularly on matte and satin
  • Have any lifted edge checked early before dirt gets under it

Frequently asked questions

Will a wrap hide the dents on my sedanu2019s doors?

No. Vinyl follows the surface underneath, so dents and creases usually stay visible, especially in gloss. We recommend having panel damage repaired before wrapping.

Which finish works best on a sedan?

It is a personal choice. Satin and matte highlight body lines in a subtle way, while gloss shows reflections and any surface flaws more clearly. We can show you samples on the car at the workshop.

Can you wrap only the boot lid?

Yes. A boot lid can be wrapped on its own in a contrast colour or carbon fibre look. Matching it to an existing paint colour exactly is not always possible, so we usually suggest a deliberate contrast.

Will I see the old colour when I open the doors?

On a standard wrap the door shuts keep the original colour. Shuts can be wrapped by arrangement, which adds time and cost, and we will discuss whether your car suits it.
