Bus Shelter Branding

Printed panels and vinyl graphics for bus shelter advertising, with approvals, weather-ready materials and campaign change-overs.

Bus shelter branding puts your message at street level, where pedestrians, commuters and drivers waiting at intersections see it every day. It usually means printed advertising panels in the shelter’s display cases, and sometimes vinyl graphics on the shelter structure itself.

It suits brands and agencies running out-of-home campaigns, media owners who need production and installation support, and businesses that have permission to brand shelters near their premises.

About this service

Bus shelters are usually owned or managed under an agreement between the municipality and an out-of-home media owner. That means you cannot simply brand a shelter: the space has to be booked or authorised through the media owner or the relevant authority, and the content has to meet the applicable municipal outdoor advertising by-laws and the media owner’s own guidelines. We work from the approved booking and specification, and we can help prepare artwork in the right size and format for approval.

Shelters face full sun, rain, wind, dust and constant public contact. Materials are chosen for that exposure: UV-resistant inks and laminates for printed graphics, backlit or translucent media where the display case is illuminated, and anti-graffiti or easy-clean laminates where available. We use vinyl from manufacturers such as 3M and Avery Dennison where it suits the application, subject to material availability.

Campaigns change, so shelter work is often a cycle of installation, inspection and change-over. Panels can be swapped on a schedule, damaged or vandalised panels can be reprinted from the same file, and old graphics are removed cleanly before new ones go up. Installation location and access are arranged per project with the media owner, as this work is carried out at the shelter sites rather than at our Rivonia workshop.

Suitable vehicles and common uses

  • Out-of-home advertising campaigns booked through a media owner
  • Product launches and promotions targeting commuters
  • Local businesses with authorised shelter space near their premises
  • Agencies needing production and installation for a shelter campaign
  • Media owners needing panel change-overs and replacements
  • Public-information campaigns placed with the relevant approvals

Available options

  • Printed panels for standard shelter display cases
  • Backlit or translucent media for illuminated cases, subject to material availability
  • Vinyl graphics on shelter roofs, side panels or structure, where the media owner allows it
  • UV-resistant and easy-clean or anti-graffiti laminates, subject to availability
  • Scheduled campaign change-overs across multiple shelters
  • Replacement panels for damaged or vandalised sites
  • Artwork resizing and preparation to the media owner’s specification

Options depend on the material available at the time of your project and on your vehicle. We confirm exactly what is possible in your quotation.

Why choose it

  • Street-level visibility to pedestrians and slow-moving traffic
  • Panels can be changed for new campaigns without altering the shelter
  • Weather-appropriate materials help graphics stay presentable outdoors
  • Damaged sites can be restored quickly from stored artwork files
  • One consistent campaign look across many shelter locations

Things to consider

  • Space must be booked or authorised through the media owner or authority, and approvals can change the artwork
  • Content must comply with municipal outdoor advertising by-laws and the media owner’s rules
  • Shelters are exposed to vandalism, and no material prevents damage
  • Strong sun gradually fades all outdoor graphics, especially in exposed positions
  • Access to some sites depends on traffic, pedestrian safety and permitted working hours

Preparation and installation process

  1. Booking and specification. You confirm the authorised sites and campaign dates with the media owner. We obtain the panel sizes, material specification and any installation rules.
  2. Artwork preparation. Artwork is set up at the correct size, bleed and resolution for each case or surface, and supplied for the media owner’s approval.
  3. Material selection and production. Panels are printed on media suited to front-lit or backlit cases and laminated where needed for UV and cleaning.
  4. Site installation. Our team visits each shelter, removes the previous campaign, cleans the case or surface and fits the new graphics, working safely around pedestrians and traffic.
  5. Photo record. Each installed site is photographed and recorded so you and the media owner have proof of installation.
  6. Monitoring and change-over. Damaged panels are replaced when reported, and the next campaign is scheduled for change-over across the same sites.

What affects the price

  • Number of shelters and how spread out the sites are
  • Panel sizes and whether cases are front-lit or backlit
  • Material and laminate choice, including anti-graffiti options
  • Graphics on the shelter structure in addition to display panels
  • Removal of previous campaigns and site cleaning
  • Frequency of change-overs and replacement visits

Every vehicle is different, so we quote each job individually. Your final quotation depends on the vehicle, the material, how much of the vehicle is covered, any artwork, and the condition of the paint once we have assessed it.

Turnaround

Timing depends on when the media owner confirms the booking and approves the artwork, how many sites are involved and how far apart they are, material availability for backlit or specialist laminates, and any restrictions on working hours at busy sites. Weather can also delay outdoor installation. Timing is confirmed with the quote once the site list and campaign dates are known.

Care and maintenance

  • Arrange periodic cleaning of display cases with mild, non-abrasive products
  • Avoid solvent cleaners on laminated vinyl unless confirmed safe for the laminate
  • Report vandalism or graffiti promptly so panels can be cleaned or replaced
  • Check backlit cases for faulty lighting, which makes graphics look faded
  • Keep a stock of artwork files ready for fast reprints of damaged panels

Frequently asked questions

Can you put our branding on any bus shelter?

No. Shelter space is controlled by the municipality and its appointed media owner. You need a booking or authorisation, and the content must meet the applicable by-laws and the media owneru2019s rules.

What is the difference between front-lit and backlit panels?

Backlit cases have lighting behind the graphic, so they need translucent media that lets light through evenly. Front-lit cases use opaque media. Using the wrong one can make the panel look dark or patchy.

What happens if a panel is vandalised mid-campaign?

We can reprint the panel from the stored file and replace it on a site visit. Anti-graffiti laminates, where available, can make some damage easier to clean but do not prevent it.

Do you handle campaign change-overs?

Yes. We can remove the outgoing campaign, clean the cases and install the new panels on a schedule agreed with you and the media owner.
