Chrome vinyl has a highly reflective, mirror-like metallic surface. Chrome films come in silver and in coloured tones such as gold, rose or blue, subject to material availability.
Chrome suits show cars, event vehicles and accent panels where impact matters more than everyday practicality. It is also used on smaller areas such as mirrors or trim for a bold detail.
About this service
Chrome is one of the most demanding films to install. It does not stretch as easily as standard colour films, and overstretching can leave hazy, discoloured or distorted areas. Complex bumpers and deep recesses may need more seams or inlays than other finishes, and some shapes may not suit chrome at all. We will tell you during the assessment where chrome is and is not practical.
Because chrome reflects like a mirror, it shows every surface imperfection. Dents, waves, chips and even dust trapped under the film are far more visible than with gloss. Paint condition and preparation are especially important.
Chrome film scratches and marks more easily than standard colour films, and scratches cannot be polished out. It must be washed gently and kept away from abrasive products and brush washes. Very reflective surfaces can also create glare for other road users, which is worth considering when deciding how much of a vehicle to cover.
Suitable vehicles and common uses
- Show cars and display vehicles
- Event, launch or promotional vehicles where visibility is the aim
- Mirror caps, trim and accent panels
- Sports cars with relatively smooth panels
- Owners prepared for a gentle, hand-wash-only routine
- Vehicles with straight, well-prepared paint
Available options
- Silver chrome, subject to material availability
- Coloured chrome tones such as gold or rose, where available
- Full wrap, where the vehicle’s shape allows
- Chrome accents on mirrors, trim or badges
- Chrome combined with gloss black or satin body colour
Options depend on the material available at the time of your project and on your vehicle. We confirm exactly what is possible in your quotation.
Why choose it
- A dramatic mirror-like finish that is hard to achieve any other way
- Strong visual impact for show and event use
- Works well as a small accent detail
- Removable, with original paint underneath
Things to consider
- Harder to install, with limited stretch and a higher chance of seams on complex panels
- Scratches and marks more easily than standard films, and scratches cannot be polished out
- Shows every dent, wave and chip underneath
- Strong reflections can cause glare; consider coverage carefully
- Not every vehicle shape suits a full chrome wrap
Preparation and installation process
- Feasibility assessment. We assess the vehicle’s shape and paint, and identify panels where chrome may need seams, inlays or a different approach.
- Agree coverage and expectations. We agree what will be chromed and explain where seams are likely and how chrome must be cared for.
- Thorough surface preparation. Paint is decontaminated and degreased with extra care, since trapped dust shows clearly under chrome.
- Controlled installation. Film is applied with minimal stretching to avoid hazing and distortion, using inlays where the shape requires.
- Detailed inspection. We check reflections across every panel in good light before handover.
What affects the price
- Chrome is a speciality film with a higher material cost
- Installation is slower and more labour-intensive than standard films
- Vehicle shape and the number of inlays or seams needed
- Paint preparation to avoid visible flaws
- Full wrap or accents only
- Disassembly and reassembly
Every vehicle is different, so we quote each job individually. Your final quotation depends on the vehicle, the material, how much of the vehicle is covered, any artwork, and the condition of the paint once we have assessed it.
Turnaround
Chrome takes longer to install than standard colour films, and timing depends on the vehicle’s shape, the coverage, the preparation required and how many complex panels are involved. We confirm the timing with your quote after a feasibility assessment.
Care and maintenance
- Hand wash only, using a very soft mitt and plenty of lubrication
- Never use automated brush washes, abrasive polishes or cutting compounds
- Rinse off dust and grit before touching the surface
- Dry by blotting with a clean microfibre towel
- Avoid harsh solvents and strong chemical cleaners
- Park under cover where possible
Frequently asked questions
Why is chrome more expensive than gloss?
Chrome film costs more, and it takes longer to install because it stretches less and is easier to mark. More inlays or seams may also be needed on complex panels.
Will a chrome wrap show scratches?
Yes. Chrome scratches more easily than other films and the marks are very visible. They cannot be polished out, so damaged panels usually need rewrapping.
Can every car be fully wrapped in chrome?
Not always. Deeply recessed bumpers and tight curves may not suit chrome. We assess your vehicle and suggest where chrome works and where a different finish may be better.
Is a chrome wrap legal for daily driving?
Check with your licensing authority and insurer. Very reflective finishes can cause glare for other road users, so many owners use chrome as accents rather than a full wrap for daily use.
Is chrome film the same as a chrome delete?
No. Chrome film adds a mirror finish. A chrome delete does the opposite, covering factory chrome trim in black or another finish to tone it down.
