Tesla Model 3 & Model Y Wraps and PPF

Full PPF, colour change wraps and chrome delete for the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y, planned around cameras.

The Tesla Model 3 and Model Y are among the most recognisable electric vehicles on Sandton roads. Their smooth, minimal bodywork wraps well, and owners usually ask about full paint protection film for new cars, colour changes and chrome delete on earlier trims.

Car Colour Wraps is an independent workshop in Rivonia and is not affiliated with or approved by Tesla. We use 3M and Avery Dennison vinyl films for colour change wraps, and clear paint protection film where stone-chip protection is the goal. Here is what is different about wrapping an EV.

What’s different about wrapping an EV

Without a combustion engine, there is no engine heat under the front lid, so the front boot area isn’t exposed to the heat a conventional engine bay produces. The care that goes into the job stays the same: the charging port door, flush door handles and seals all need precise trimming. We don’t disconnect any electrical systems, and we keep part removal to a minimum.

The large glass roofs on the Model 3 and Model Y are not wrapped, as we don’t cover glass on vehicles.

Cameras and sensors

The Model 3 and Model Y rely on cameras around the body for driver-assistance features, including cameras in the front wing indicators and the door pillars, a camera cluster at the top of the windscreen and a rear camera above the number plate. Some vehicles also have parking sensors in the bumpers. We leave all lenses and sensors uncovered, trim precisely around them and check for camera warnings after installation.

  • Wing indicator cameras trimmed around
  • Door pillar cameras left clear
  • Windscreen camera area never covered
  • Rear camera and any bumper sensors cut out precisely

Full PPF and colour change

Many new Tesla owners choose full-vehicle paint protection film to protect the factory paint from stone chips on highways. PPF is clear and does not change the colour; results depend on the condition of the paint, so we inspect it first. If you want a new look, a gloss, satin or matte colour change wrap can transform the car, subject to material availability, and some owners combine a wrapped body with PPF on the most exposed front-end areas.

Chrome delete on Model 3 and Model Y trims

Earlier Model 3 and Model Y vehicles left the factory with chrome window trim and badges, while later versions have black trim. A chrome delete in gloss or satin black gives older cars the darker look. We check the trim’s condition first, as pitted or peeling chrome affects adhesion.

Tell your insurer about any wrap, and check with your licensing authority whether a full colour change needs to be recorded. Our 5-year workmanship guarantee covers our installation workmanship only, not how long the film or colour lasts.
