Volvo Wraps, Satin Finishes & Paint Protection

Subtle satin finishes, chrome delete and PPF for the Volvo XC40, XC60, XC90 and EX30, planned around sensors.

The XC40, XC60, XC90 and the fully electric EX30 are known for clean Scandinavian design: simple surfaces, restrained detailing and distinctive Thor’s Hammer headlights. That restraint shapes what owners ask for. Most prefer subtle changes such as a satin finish, a darker trim look or clear paint protection film rather than bold graphics.

Car Colour Wraps is an independent workshop in Rivonia, Sandton, with no affiliation to Volvo Cars. We use 3M and Avery Dennison vinyl films for wraps. Below are the points we consider when planning work on a Volvo.

Subtle finishes that suit Scandinavian design

Satin greys, soft whites and muted blues and greens tend to suit Volvo’s clean shapes, subject to material availability. A satin finish softens reflections across large, flat panels, which can make the design look calmer and more sculpted. We show you physical samples in daylight, because satin colours can look quite different outdoors than on a screen. Contrast roofs are also popular on the XC40 and EX30, and some versions already leave the factory with one, in which case the roof can be wrapped in a new tone.

Sensors, cameras and driver assistance

Volvo builds a lot of safety technology into its vehicles. Depending on the model, radar sits behind the front badge or in the lower front, with a camera at the top of the windscreen, parking sensors in the bumpers and surround-view cameras in the mirrors and tailgate. We leave radar areas, cameras and lights uncovered, trim precisely around sensors and check for warning messages after installation.

  • Radar areas at the front are left clear
  • The windscreen camera area is never covered
  • Mirror and tailgate cameras are trimmed around
  • Parking sensors are cut out precisely

PPF and the electric EX30

Clear paint protection film is a common request on new Volvos, especially on the bonnet, front bumper and mirrors. It is designed to absorb stone chips and does not change the colour. On the EX30 there is no engine heat to consider behind the front panels, but the closed front design, charging port flap and sensors still need careful trimming. Full-vehicle PPF is an option if you want wider coverage, subject to an assessment of the paint.

Chrome trim, leases and insurers

Bright window surrounds and grille frames on some XC60 and XC90 versions can be covered in gloss or satin black for a darker look, and this can be reversed later. Detailed grille inserts are judged case by case.

Many Volvos are leased or company-owned, so check your agreement before a colour change, and tell your insurer about any wrap. Our 5-year workmanship guarantee covers our installation workmanship only, not how long the film or colour lasts.
